Key Locking Safes – Details and Specifications
When purchasing a safe one of the key decisions is whether to use a key lock or electronic lock. We would always recommend this choice down to your own personal preference and circumstances as each situation will differ.
The use of a key is ideal if there is only yourself and another family member requiring access to the safe on a regular basis. You can then decide on where to store the keys in a safe place. If you would prefer not to hide the keys out of sight then we would recommend to choose an electronic or digital lock.
The use of a key lock might not be suitable if you are in a business or office as there will be multiple staff members requiring access who would constantly be passing the key to the next person which could lose the key.
Does a Key Lock Safe Differ?
Keys for key locking safes will vary in length, this depends on the level of security of the safe, high security safes will have the longest length of keys because they go through a thick door to get to the lock.
Budget key lock safes have a single key lock which are supplied with two keys. High security safes from Eurograde 4 or £60,000 cash rated and above have dual key locks and are supplied with 2 different keys per lock.
Spare Keys and Additional Cut Keys
If you need spare keys for your key lock safe we recommend ordering them at the time of order. As standard each safe will come with 2 keys in your order.
Where to Place or Install a Key Locking Safe
We would always recommend to place the safe away from areas that it could be seen. Some of the most common areas chosen are within wardrobes, under the stairs and in purpose built cupboards.
Before installing, always check the surface that it is going into such as a concrete floor, brick wall or wooden floor with joists. If you have underfloor heating it will not be possible to install the safe through the base of the safe.
If you are planning to install the safe in a wardrobe or cupboard please ensure that the weight of the safe is not too heavy and the shelf in the cupboard can withstand the weight and size of the safe. Please contact our helpful team if you require further advice on this.
DID YOU KNOW? Key lock safes vary in size and weight, regardless of the weight we always recommend you ensure the safe is bolted down.
